Copyright Policy

Your original work remains yours

If you create an original story, manuscript, chapter, character, artwork, or other copyrightable work, you generally retain the rights you have in that work.

Uploading your work to FireForge does not, by itself, transfer ownership of your copyright to FireForge.

FireForge does not become the owner of your manuscript merely because we host, process, display, publish, or otherwise provide services relating to it.

Subject to any separate agreement you enter into with FireForge, you remain free to:

• Continue developing your work;
• Edit your work;
• Export your work;
• Publish it elsewhere;
• License it to others;
• Sell or otherwise commercialize it;
• Remove it from FireForge where the applicable functionality permits.

Your rights may depend on the work

Copyright protection depends on applicable law and the nature of the material.

Not every idea, concept, title, name, character element, phrase, or other piece of information necessarily receives copyright protection.

FireForge does not determine whether a particular work is legally protected by copyright in your jurisdiction.

If copyright ownership or infringement is important to a particular transaction or dispute, you should seek advice from an appropriately qualified legal professional.

When you upload, create, or publish Content through FireForge, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights to do so.

You should not upload or publish material unless you have the necessary permission, license, ownership, or other lawful basis. This includes material such as:

• Stories and manuscripts;
• Translations;
• Images and illustrations;
• Photographs;
• Cover artwork;
• Audio recordings;
• Music;
• Video;
• Character or franchise material;
• Quotes or excerpts;
• Other third-party creative works.

You are responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions from copyright owners, publishers, collaborators, photographers, illustrators, voice performers, licensors, or other rights holders.

Collaboratively created work

If you create a work with another person, you are responsible for ensuring that your arrangement with that person permits you to submit and publish the work through FireForge.

Where multiple people own rights in a work, FireForge may require evidence that you are authorized to act on behalf of the relevant rights holders.

FireForge needs limited rights to your Content in order to operate the platform.

When you submit Content to FireForge, you grant FireForge a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, display, perform, format, adapt, and otherwise use your Content to the extent reasonably necessary to:

• Provide the FireForge Service;
• Store and back up your Content;
• Synchronize your Content across supported devices;
• Process Content through features you request;
• Generate exports;
• Generate requested narration or translations;
• Generate requested artwork or other outputs;
• Display Content according to your account and publishing settings;
• Publish and distribute works when you instruct FireForge to do so;
• Operate recommendations, search, discovery, and platform functionality;
• Maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the technical operation of the Service;
• Enforce our Terms and policies;
• Comply with applicable law.

This license is not a transfer of copyright ownership.

Public works

When you choose to publish a work through FireForge or FictionFlux, you authorize FireForge to make that work available to readers and distribute it through the features and channels you have selected.

The scope of this publishing license may depend on the specific publishing or monetization program you participate in.

If you enter into a separate publishing, licensing, distribution, exclusivity, or monetization agreement with FireForge, that agreement may establish additional rights or restrictions.

FireForge may provide tools that allow creators to make their work available to readers.

When you publish a work, you understand that the work may be:

• Displayed publicly;
• Indexed within FireForge or FictionFlux;
• Recommended to readers;
• Included in search results;
• Read through supported applications or websites;
• Converted into supported formats;
• Translated where you request or authorize translation;
• Narrated where you request or authorize narration;
• Included in other platform experiences associated with the published work.

You should only publish work that you are legally authorized to distribute in this manner.

Removing published work

Where FireForge provides a mechanism to unpublish or remove a work, you may use that mechanism subject to the terms of any applicable publishing or monetization agreement.

Removing a work from FireForge does not necessarily eliminate:

• Copies that readers previously downloaded;
• Screenshots or recordings made by others;
• Third-party references or links;
• Cached or archived material outside FireForge;
• Content retained where legally necessary.

FireForge provides AI-powered tools that may assist with writing, editing, translation, narration, artwork, and other creative tasks.

Using an AI tool does not automatically transfer ownership of your underlying work to FireForge.

However, copyright protection for AI-generated material can vary by jurisdiction.

Human-created material

Where you create original expression yourself, your contributions may receive copyright protection according to applicable law.

This may include original writing, editing, selection, arrangement, creative direction, or other human contributions.

Purely AI-generated material

Material generated entirely by an AI system may not qualify for copyright protection in some jurisdictions.

FireForge does not guarantee that purely AI-generated text, artwork, narration, translations, or other output will be protected by copyright or exclusively owned by you.

AI-assisted work

A work containing AI-assisted material may contain both human-created and AI-generated elements.

The legal treatment of that combination depends on applicable law and the specific circumstances.

You are responsible for determining how AI-assisted material may legally be used, licensed, published, or commercialized.

No exclusive-output guarantee

AI systems can produce similar or substantially similar outputs for different users.

FireForge does not guarantee that an AI-generated image, passage, narration, translation, or other output is unique or exclusive to your account.

You may encounter or use third-party content through FireForge. Examples include:

• Reader comments;
• Publicly available stories;
• User profiles;
• Images;
• References;
• Links;
• Other creator Content.

Access to material through FireForge does not give you ownership or permission to reproduce, distribute, modify, sell, or commercially exploit it.

Unless you have permission or another lawful basis, do not:

• Copy another creator's complete story;
• Re-upload another person's work;
• Use another creator's artwork as your own cover;
• Translate and republish another person's work without authorization;
• Remove copyright notices;
• Sell or distribute another creator's work;
• Use substantial portions of another person's work as your own.

Fair use and similar exceptions

Some jurisdictions recognize exceptions or limitations to copyright, including concepts such as fair use, fair dealing, quotation, criticism, review, parody, education, or other statutory exceptions.

FireForge does not make the legal determination for you.

If you believe your use of third-party material is legally permitted, you remain responsible for ensuring that your use complies with applicable law.

Copyright infringement occurs when someone uses copyright-protected material in a manner that violates the rights granted to the copyright owner and does not qualify for an applicable legal exception. Examples may include:

• Uploading another person's complete novel without permission;
• Publishing another person's manuscript under your own name;
• Reproducing protected artwork without authorization;
• Uploading unauthorized translations;
• Re-uploading content after it has been removed for copyright infringement;
• Distributing copyrighted material outside the permissions granted by its owner.

FireForge takes copyright complaints seriously.

If you believe Content available through FireForge infringes your copyright, you may submit a copyright complaint.

If you are a copyright owner or authorized representative and believe that material on FireForge infringes your copyright, contact us at abuse@fireforge.app, our dedicated copyright/DMCA address, or through our Contact Us page.

A useful copyright complaint should include enough information for us to identify and investigate the material. Where applicable, please provide:

1. Identification of the copyrighted work

Describe the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed. If multiple works are involved, provide a representative list.

2. Identification of the allegedly infringing material

Provide enough information for us to locate the material on FireForge. This may include:

• Story title;
• Author or account name;
• Chapter title;
• URL;
• Screenshot;
• Other identifying information.

3. Your ownership or authority

Explain your relationship to the copyrighted work. If you are submitting the complaint on behalf of the copyright owner, identify your authority to do so.

4. Contact information

Provide information that allows us or the relevant party to contact you regarding the complaint.

5. Good-faith statement

Confirm that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or applicable law.

6. Accuracy statement

Confirm that the information in your complaint is accurate and that you are authorized to submit the complaint.

We may request additional information where reasonably necessary to investigate the claim.

After receiving a copyright complaint, FireForge may:

• Review the complaint;
• Request additional information;
• Identify the relevant Content or account;
• Restrict access to the Content while the matter is investigated;
• Notify the uploader or account holder;
• Request a response or evidence of authorization;
• Remove or restore Content based on the available information;
• Take additional action where required by law or our policies.

A copyright complaint does not automatically establish that infringement has occurred.

FireForge may consider information provided by both the complainant and the affected user.

Temporary restrictions

In appropriate circumstances, we may temporarily restrict access to Content while a complaint is being reviewed.

This may be necessary to protect the rights of the complainant, the creator, or FireForge while the matter is investigated.

If your Content has been removed or restricted because of a copyright complaint and you believe the removal was incorrect, you may contact FireForge and explain why you believe you have the right to use the material.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, we may request information such as:

• Identification of the removed Content;
• Evidence of ownership or authorization;
• An explanation of why the use is lawful;
• Information demonstrating that you have permission;
• Information supporting an applicable copyright exception.

Where applicable law provides a formal counter-notice procedure, FireForge may follow that procedure.

If a valid counter-notice is received, we may provide it to the complaining party and take any legally required steps before restoring the Content.

We do not guarantee that Content will be restored simply because a counter-notice is submitted.

FireForge may take stronger action against accounts that repeatedly infringe copyright. Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

• Removing additional Content;
• Restricting publishing privileges;
• Restricting account functionality;
• Suspending an account;
• Terminating an account.

A user whose Content is repeatedly subject to credible copyright complaints may lose access to certain FireForge features.

We may also take action where there is evidence that an account is being used to systematically upload or distribute unauthorized copyrighted material.

Copyright-reporting mechanisms must not be used to:

• Harass another creator;
• Silence lawful criticism;
• Suppress legitimate competition;
• Remove content merely because you dislike it;
• Make knowingly false claims;
• Misrepresent ownership;
• Abuse the copyright-reporting process.

Submitting knowingly false or materially misleading copyright complaints may result in restrictions on your ability to submit future complaints and may expose you to legal consequences.

If you are uncertain about whether particular material infringes copyright, consider obtaining appropriate legal advice before submitting a formal complaint.

FireForge may remove or restrict Content that we reasonably believe:

• Infringes copyright;
• Violates these Terms;
• Violates applicable FireForge policies;
• Creates legal or security risk;
• Is subject to a valid legal request;
• Is otherwise unlawful.

Where appropriate, we may also suspend or terminate accounts associated with serious or repeated infringement.

We may preserve relevant information where necessary to:

• Investigate a complaint;
• Comply with legal obligations;
• Respond to legal proceedings;
• Protect FireForge or another party;
• Prevent repeated abuse.

AI-generated material creates additional copyright considerations.

If you believe AI-generated or AI-assisted Content on FireForge infringes your copyright, you may report it through the same copyright-reporting process.

However, the fact that AI output resembles your work does not automatically establish copyright infringement.

AI systems may independently generate similar material, particularly where prompts or subject matter are similar.

FireForge may consider factors including:

• The material allegedly copied;
• The similarity between the works;
• Whether protected expression appears to have been reproduced;
• The circumstances surrounding the generation;
• Available evidence concerning the source material;
• Any authorization or license;
• Applicable copyright law.

FireForge does not make definitive legal judgments on behalf of copyright courts or authorities.

Where a dispute cannot reasonably be resolved through our platform process, the parties may need to pursue the remedies available under applicable law.

The FireForge platform itself contains intellectual property owned by or licensed to FireForge. This may include:

• FireForge trademarks;
• Logos;
• Brand elements;
• Website and application interfaces;
• Software;
• Platform architecture;
• Original graphics;
• Documentation;
• Platform copy;
• Product names;
• Proprietary systems and technology.

Except where expressly permitted by FireForge or applicable law, you may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, sell, or commercially exploit FireForge's proprietary materials.

Your use of FireForge does not give you ownership of FireForge's intellectual property.

Third-party trademarks

Third-party names, trademarks, brands, and other intellectual property referenced on FireForge belong to their respective owners.

Their appearance on the platform does not imply endorsement by or affiliation with FireForge unless expressly stated.
